When I worked in a warehouse-style office, I wore fingerless gloves a lot. They keep you warm while you do things like type. They're especially handy in transition seasons like fall.
Once you knit a few rows, you get the hang of the stitch pattern and don't really need to refer to the instructions much. The thumb hole is probably the biggest pain, since you have to try and make it look neat where you make the join.
Here are my lovely friends modeling their new gloves. The gloves, as you can see, have just the right amount of stretch. Yay!
