Ahoy! Sea Captain Embroidery
Over the summer I participated in local craft shop Blackberg Creative Studio's Cozy Blue sea captain family stitch along. There are three in the series (the sea captain, sea captain's wife, and sea captain's daughter) but I only made it through the first one.
Obviously plans to finish the other two are in order. I just needed a little break. If you have issue completing projects, join a stitch-along. It really motivates you to finish projects.
The stitches that make up the sea captain are simple. I used only back stitch, French knots, and chain stitch. The complicated part is that many of the stitches are made with a single strand of embroidery floss, which takes a pretty long time and is killer on your eyes.
Check out the single-strand floss on that awesome knit hat.
The only thing I don't like about my sea captain is that I think the black facial features might be a little harsh against the soft blues. But I'm too lazy to go back and redo it.
Something I really love about embroidery is that it's so portable. I took the sea captain with me on road trips, to bars, and to parks. Perhaps that's why I was able to finish him up.

This is really adorable! It almost makes me want to go back to doing some embroidery. However, considering I have a embroidery block/quilt-a-long quilt that is in my UFO pile from maybe 3 years ago, it's possible I should work on that first. :)
